Oh and another thing worth mentioning which you'll find is a very recurrent theme where there are masters of Chi Gong. Master "tells his new students, come here every morning at dawn for 3 years then I'll know you're serious", you understand that he's charging for each and every one of those morning sessions? He's instilling a culture whereby he's hinting at giving people paranormal powers whilst picking up 3 years worth of class fees off each student. A nice little earner.

But, of course there will always be those who say its done with fishing line and harnesses. In the end, you choose to believe or not believe. Reality is always perception, anyway.

i am not having an existential debate here. just don't fall victim to the appeal to believing something because it's on the discovery channel (remember the Blair Witch Project? Discovery channel did a fake "documentary" for promotion of the film.) Aside from that, it's no surprise that through discipline some humans can control small ammounts of electric current in their nervous systems. i don't think it's necessary to attach a "spiritual" significance to it.

i dont really want to argue, its your opinion about tai chi. i personally have been practising for 9 years and i practise it soley as a fighting art, not for health benefits, and im a pretty good fighter now and pobs will get better. look up erle montague on youtube. he explains things quite well, u might have seen his videos, i dont know. and by the way, know one knows 4 sure how tai chi originated ive read many versions of events from many different books. remember ur view is ONE view.

It was up to the practitioners themselves to take Tai Chi to the next level. To not only enhance Chi flow of your own body, but to DISRUPT the Chi flow of your opponents body. So I will repeat again, it is not a fighting form. Just because you can spew out names and dates found on Wiki doesn't mean anything. I have no doubt the top fighters were Tai Chi practitioners. In fact, the highest level of Tai Chi is when you actual use it as a fighting form, turning immeasurable, intangible meditation into explosive physical execution, which require almost a life time of training.

Homework? I studied and practice Tai Chi for 7 years bud. Do you even know why Tai Chi was first used? The Buddhists sat all day meditating, so they became very fat (you see their statues being fat, which also represents life, because of all the sitting meditating they do). Because they were fat, they could not defend themselves against bandits who rob their canes/jewelery/ or whatever - hence Tai Chi, the physical form of meditation so they can be in shape WHILE they meditate.

The t'ai chi fighters were among the top guys. Two years later, the competition was held again, and won by the famous Chen t'ai chi master, Chen FaKe. Haha the most ridiculous thing I've read, Tai Ji being a form of fighting. Partially true since Tai Chi stems from Qi Gong, but Tai Ji is a simplified version of Qi Gong and focuses on the internal exercise. You can incorporate Tai Ji in your fighting, but itself is not a fighting form. Not for old people? I suggest you read a book or two about it, when you say this it seems most of your knowledge about Tai Ji comes from Hollywood. It is use for everyone, even those in a wheelchair can do it.

all my family members, practice taichi... my grandpa wakes up every day at 5 am and turns on his taichi music on our deck and practices taichi for an hour... hes been doing it for 35 years... he's 83 years old... he used to balance cups and bowls with water back then... and the amazing thing is he's been living in america for 20 years now and he has never missed one day of taichi...

Its NOT dancing. It is Taiji and Wushu. If you notice, each section of the form starts with Taiji movement then does the same concept of movements in Kung fu/Wushu format. I learned the form about 5 years ago and loved it (too bad I haven't practiced it much since then...bad me...bad me!). Every aspect of Taiji in in this form, no doubt.

You're confusing discipline with conditioning. Your body will do whatever your brain tells it to provided it's capable of it, it's all a state of mind. Supposedly iron body training works by conditioning the body to be stronger, and in a muscular and bone sense maybe that's true as it is with most exercises, at least the ones that don't destroy said body, but I've yet to see anything super human from it or to suggest that anything other than a moderately healthy diet should be required.

wing chun = balance on back foot and relax. if you are relaxed in an attack or defence, if your opponent changes what he is doing you are uncommited to the attack and can easily convert a punch into a elbow or a grab. everything in wing chun is a target or a handle, from loose thumbs to ears for manipulating your opponents body to bodys hundreds of pressure points that take very little force to cause much pain and paralysis. Prob with mma fighting is its designed for one on one in th cage. On the street you've always got the possibility of your opponents mates turning up and they wont think twice about stomping on your head whilst your in mid-armbar on their mate or just simply knifing you in the chest. Rules go out the window in EVERY streetfight and you want to be able to dispatch and hurt immensely before using the best defense you have afterward... a swift pair of legs!

Well -- of course terms like "exaggerated" and "perfectly" mean one thing to one person and something else to another. But, clearly there are very different styles of performing tai chi. Just speaking for myself, we try to follow the form and style which was exemplified and taught by Prof. Cheng Man Ch'ing. There are videos of him on YouTube. If you compare that style with the gentleman in this video, clearly the latter is demonstrating a much different style of tai chi than that of Prof. Cheng.

the person who said his forms are exaggerated is right in a way, as when beginning to learn tai chi, it is not recommended to extend the bodys weight too far forward past the knee. im not saying his form is wrong just certain aspects of it seem overdone, but this could be due to his experience more than anything else. instructors are only easier to learn from if its a one on one class your taking too.

Don't do tai chi from a video, go out and find an instructor that knows what they are doing. Doing all of these pieces of form is a harder task than what it appears to be on the surface. I'd say these videos are good for reference videos at best, not instructional.

Tai Chi Chuan is a martial art but alot of people just practice the solo forms for health, this video is such a form. TCC as a martial art has way different training. Don't think that TCC guys just do this and think they can fight, they do a lot more training stuff with much free style fighting.

Prof. Cheng never taught this but my teacher had us learn Chengs form in mirror version as well as regular CMC form. I do standard Wu 108 everyday nowadays but no mirror, CMC now and then. still do both sides of Yang style weapons form and also Aikido/Kenjutsu weapons. I used to do Chen and old Wu style, two man form and fast form.

Yes, there are weapons forms in t'ai chi. Prof. Cheng's book is wonderful, but you need to study with a competent, experienced teacher. Also, the only weapon Prof. Cheng taught formally was the jian, the sword seen in this video.

With all due respect, if you do a "mirror" form, it isn't CMC. Prof. Cheng specifically told his students they shouldn't do this, because it could produce adverse health effects. TC is designed to work with the organ systems of the body, which are not symmetrical, hence the bilateral asymmetry of his (and most) TC forms. Also, though it's not bad to be able to use weapons with both hands, Prof. Cheng likewise never taught this.

Tai Chi weapons is sword, saber, spear and staff. I do the CMC form with a mirror version also weapons done withe mirror, right hand the with left. I don't know any spear forms but have a book "The Wind Sweeps Away Plum Blossoms".

Wow, I just recently bought "Cheng Tzu's 13 Treatise on Tai Chi Chuan," and now I find this video on Youtube. What luck! From what I've seen in the video, there also happens to be a study of weapon forms in Tai Chi? I thought so. I've been trying to self-teach myself so this video is actually very helpful. there are many diferent types of internal skills/strengths which chinese call 'jin'- more numerous than external strength 'li4'. b/c through relaxing(soft-yin) one can penetrate the oponent(hard-yang), many possible skills can be applied. ie strike the center, listen to center, uproot center, send sudden energy to center, pull & push center, etc etc. CMC(chen man ching) does utilize these strengths just like other taiji styles but is less 'flashy/external apealing'
