The brains at CERN have said that there is a possibility that black holes may be created during a collision in the LHC but they would be so small that there is no risk to us. Also black holes are created by the collapse of a vast amount of mater into itself through gravity, so surely a black hole created by a particle collision would have less power and a shorter lifespan.

I totally agree. it really amuses me though, because christians are supposed to be the biggest "anti-war" supporters, yet they are one of the most globally violent people. The nature of this research is to collect AS MANY collisions events as is possible, until you've collected enough that you can make a statistical conclusion. You also would not be able to measure momentum and/or position if beams were single protons colliding straight on, as each collision would 'overlap' the last.

3. Only way to cure disease is to have the means to produce a high resolution 3 dimensional image of the proteins in question. LHC provides the most sensitive source of x-ray crystallographic data yet. Before it, ALL medical research has been conducted at most of the particle accelerators around the world, I should know this, as I use said accelerators to collect structural data in my own studies. You obviously know nothing about biochemistry, pharmacology, or disease treatment, do you?

It was never delayed Please go to CERNs website and READ The only thing they had planned for this year were diagnostic and calibration tests. There were to be no experiments conducted this year. The plan for the commencement of experiments was slated for Spring 2009 sometime in early 2007. They will now just skip the 'live' diagnostic/calibration tests (and do them during the winter maintenance downtime), and begin full scale 14TeV collisions in spring, as was planned all along.

They were expecting problems, they shut down all their accelerators at the end of every year, and they had no plans, whatsoever, of starting collisions in 2008. The accident didn't delay their timeline at all. Go to CERN's website and look at the timelin yourself ...

Yes I got evidence of God existence. My mother have received lot of messages from God and the Virgin. Also from a relative who died asking for some stuff for his family. they wouldn't spend 6 billion dollars on an experiment they knew nothing about. the lhc isn't the only collider of its kind, theres several others..which can be thanked for revealing many of the fundamental particles we now know make up our universe. The lhc is just, as the name suggest, a larger version of colliders. with the potential to produce higher energy. It is a tried and tested experiment that has yet to yeild all possible results.

that might be true, if what I know is correct then the collision was mad sometime two or three weeks after the 10th of September. As for the fact they would get some results at the 21th October might also be right because of the long time it takes for Cerns supercomputer (and the rest of The Grid)to analyse and "figure out"

Taking into consideration that in the universe there are sources of particles with much higher energies than LHC can provide, I would say that Hawking radiation is pretty much proven. I don't think you fully understand the process of the LHC. This machine is speeding up protons to 99% of the speed of light, and then colliding them. BOTH particles are traveling at this speed when they collide, causing an unimaginable amount of energy. Particles colliding with earth don't have anywhere near this velocity. This is a completely different scenario.
