I think I'm right in saying that there are a lot of 'guitar gods' around past and present, that have awesome ability, technique, tone, speed, clarity etc. All of which, after a (long!!) while, can be learned. However, very few are able to talk through their instrument like Gary, and are able to do it with such raw passion. One of the all time greats, and any one who doubts this, just listen to this one again...

uhhhh no Hendrix played this song better four decades ago than Gary does in this video. hear him play it live at San Diego, Randalls Island, Woodstock even. Jimi's solos actually flow, it isn't just minor pentatonic shredding you hear. it's different parts of different scales, all carefully picked to set a mood. and about Jimi's death, nobody really knows how he died, some say murder. he man was found with nearly a gallon of red wine in his lungs, with only 40 mg of alc. in the blood

yeah man. gary moore is so casual. he fucking throws his picking hand in. once you know the minor pentatonic and blues scales, you can get that lovely squelchy, saturated tone at high volume with practice. As for the skill, bah, i'm and ant compared to gary if that! ^_^

No doubt Hendrix was ahead of his time, and i am ever greatful for his work, but having that said, Mr.Moore really plays Hendrix's socks off here. Ofc it doesn't sound quite like Hendrix, but imagine Hendrix try to play some of Gary's stuff? If Hendrix hadn't fucked himself up and died, there could be that today he was just an old man no one remembered. Gary is a way better guitarplayer than Hendrix ever was.

Gary played the Fender show and he is an avid Gibson player that's saying something. Yes he covered a Hendrix song but he's one of the few who can and do it right. Definately one of the better Hendrix covers gets a little Page-like in some parts, but very good. Much better than SRV covering Jimi, SRV cleans it up too much and doesn't improvise enough.

Like black metal... i could understand where youre coming from. Low quality, really harsh and raw, its more of an acquired taste. Thrash metal is just as raw at times, and it really relates to punk in its mood. But when it comes to death metal, especially technical death metal, i dont see how its for kids. The kids you see now dont listen to "real" metal. Youll catch them listening to metalcore and lame stuff. And power metal...cmon its just as cheesy as anything mainstream 80s like this vid lol

XGhacker that was pure ignorance. You have to train your voice for a very long time to do growls. You obviously dont know anything about it. You probably heard it and was like " this is god awful..." and just though anyone can do that. No not everyone can do that. And if you are inexperienced in doing growls and try to be cocky about it and do it the wrong way you can damage yourself permanently. So yes it does take talent, practice, dedication, and everything else a music skill would need ...
