Many years ago I had an LP of Oscar Peterson singing his tribute to Nat King Cole. Oscar's voice had the same timbre as Nat's but not as pure - and this album was superb. I had heard that Oscar would not sing during Nat's lifetime because of the similarity in voices. ould love to know if anyone else ever heard it, if there was a chance of hearing it on a remake.

Machineamsterdam..Yes I would say you were alone in this handicap! George Gershwin lived for 39 years and wrote an incredible amount of great music! So your telling me there's no melody in Lady Be Good, Stike Up The Band, Swonderful, Summertime, Fascinating Rhythm, Our Love Is Here To Say, Someone To Watch Over Me, But Not For me, Rhapsody In Blue, and many many more. I am of the post-War generation, so knowing about Porter and Gershwin is some I have had to "learn". I love Cole Porter's stuff. Incredible. But Gershwin, I just don't get it. Where is the melody? I tried to find what it is that people like about it, but I can't. I never had to do that with Porter. Am I alone in this "handicap"?

'Genetic Engineering'? We substitute chords, to make basic progressions 'more interesting'. But we have to stay within limits else the song becomes something different. Standards by various composers use similar progressions. We can 'quote' from a song, when improvising another. Porter apparently didn't like Jazz musicians 'altering' his songs. So, Porter or Gershwin? Porter the more classy, but Gershwin wrote fine stuff. Thanks. John

I love Porters music even more than Arlans or Gershwins, my favorite song is DREAM DANCING, any body got a recording with Porter? His tunes are able to be played as Jazz without gentic engeneering on the chord sequence(the DNA of Music). But Gershwins"but not for me " needs just that, see what MJQ did with it or with "summertime"!!

Christeendah: Untamed Heart is one of those unknown classics that never got much recognition. It's really the only chick flick that I've ever liked. I'm usually more of a sci-fi and action guy.
