i dont really want to argue, its your opinion about tai chi. i personally have been practising for 9 years and i practise it soley as a fighting art, not for health benefits, and im a pretty good fighter now and pobs will get better. look up erle montague on youtube. he explains things quite well, u might have seen his videos, i dont know. and by the way, know one knows 4 sure how tai chi originated ive read many versions of events from many different books. remember ur view is ONE view.

It was up to the practitioners themselves to take Tai Chi to the next level. To not only enhance Chi flow of your own body, but to DISRUPT the Chi flow of your opponents body. It is an amazing and monumental step to take that only those who truly reach the summit will be able to do. It is not a simple "take summer classes and learn street fighting." So I will repeat again, it is not a fighting form. Just because you can spew out names and dates found on Wiki doesn't mean anything. I have no doubt the top fighters were Tai Chi practitioners. In fact, the highest level of Tai Chi is when you actual use it as a fighting form, turning immeasurable, intangible meditation into explosive physical execution, which require almost a life time of training.

Homework? I studied and practice Tai Chi for 7 years bud. Do you even know why Tai Chi was first used? The Buddhists sat all day meditating, so they became very fat (you see their statues being fat, which also represents life, because of all the sitting meditating they do). Because they were fat, they could not defend themselves against bandits who rob their canes/jewelery/ or whatever - hence Tai Chi, the physical form of meditation so they can be in shape WHILE they meditate.

The t'ai chi fighters were among the top guys. Two years later, the competition was held again, and won by the famous Chen t'ai chi master, Chen FaKe. Haha the most ridiculous thing I've read, Tai Ji being a form of fighting. Partially true since Tai Chi stems from Qi Gong, but Tai Ji is a simplified version of Qi Gong and focuses on the internal exercise. You can incorporate Tai Ji in your fighting, but itself is not a fighting form. Not for old people? I suggest you read a book or two about it, when you say this it seems most of your knowledge about Tai Ji comes from Hollywood. It is use for everyone, even those in a wheelchair can do it.

he goes back to shanghai, china every couple of years and meets up w/ his friends and practice taichi everyday... i want him to teach me but he says its for old people once you hit 50 years old or so( an excuse for when i was young)... he wants to teach me now but i cant wake up at 5 in the morning to practice with him...

all my family members, practice taichi... my grandpa wakes up every day at 5 am and turns on his taichi music on our deck and practices taichi for an hour... hes been doing it for 35 years... he's 83 years old... he used to balance cups and bowls with water back then... and the amazing thing is he's been living in america for 20 years now and he has never missed one day of taichi...

Everyone is talking about posture, funny b/c tai chi is, for beginners, all about postures, but the true insight of tai chi comes from proper breathing and controlling the chi flow, which requires, as a side requirement, meditation. This video shows the moves, you have to do it and experience it (seriously) to get what Tai Chi is truly about.

Well -- of course terms like "exaggerated" and "perfectly" mean one thing to one person and something else to another. But, clearly there are very different styles of performing tai chi. Just speaking for myself, we try to follow the form and style which was exemplified and taught by Prof. Cheng Man Ch'ing. There are videos of him on YouTube. If you compare that style with the gentleman in this video, clearly the latter is demonstrating a much different style of tai chi than that of Prof. Cheng.

the person who said his forms are exaggerated is right in a way, as when beginning to learn tai chi, it is not recommended to extend the bodys weight too far forward past the knee. im not saying his form is wrong just certain aspects of it seem overdone, but this could be due to his experience more than anything else. instructors are only easier to learn from if its a one on one class your taking too.

Don't do tai chi from a video, go out and find an instructor that knows what they are doing. Doing all of these pieces of form is a harder task than what it appears to be on the surface. I'd say these videos are good for reference videos at best, not instructional.

Prof. Cheng never taught this but my teacher had us learn Chengs form in mirror version as well as regular CMC form. I do standard Wu 108 everyday nowadays but no mirror, CMC now and then. still do both sides of Yang style weapons form and also Aikido/Kenjutsu weapons. I used to do Chen and old Wu style, two man form and fast form.

Yes, there are weapons forms in t'ai chi. Prof. Cheng's book is wonderful, but you need to study with a competent, experienced teacher. Also, the only weapon Prof. Cheng taught formally was the jian, the sword seen in this video.

With all due respect, if you do a "mirror" form, it isn't CMC. Prof. Cheng specifically told his students they shouldn't do this, because it could produce adverse health effects. TC is designed to work with the organ systems of the body, which are not symmetrical, hence the bilateral asymmetry of his (and most) TC forms. Also, though it's not bad to be able to use weapons with both hands, Prof. Cheng likewise never taught this.

PRVN waged a war of Communist aggression on the South. SVN didn't want Communism, but Ho wanted ALL of VN to be Communist - thus the reason for the war. It would have ended the instant the Communists ended their invasion of the South. When NVA won, as predicted, thousands of SVN gov't officials, army officers and anyone NV thought was a problem were killed. Others were imprisoned and sent to "re-education camps" for years. NVN didn't "liberate" SVN, they conquered it. And acted that way.
