Well, as a heavy fighter, I can tell you this, every shot, every thrust, and every block is a calculated action. Of course it looks more chaotic than poking each other with a thin piece of metal, you have to protect yourelf, your neighbors, break the enemy line, and listen for orders at the same time. This SCA stuff looks pretty awesome, yeah. I, myself almost joined the SCA but I figured I'd go for the NVG(New Varangian Guard) instead. It's a smaller group, so we don't have the massive, awesome fights like the SCA does, but we use very different equipment. We use steel weapons and periodically accurate equipment, but we have to be thoroughly trained so we don't smack each other up D: Also, we let anyone train, but they've gotta be 16 - and authorised - before they can fight in public :D

Im 14 years old, and this looks like something i'd like to do. I looked on the SCA(dot)com and read about the teens SCA aren't allowed to participate "martial art based on tournament foot-combat in the Middle Ages, until the age of 18 in most kingdoms." Then it says that "Youth combat, using foam-padded boffer weapons, may be available to youth under the minimum" Does that include the massive fighting at near the end of this video, meaning that teens under 18 aren't allowed to do that?

Obviously you have no idea whats actually happening in this video. This is a specialized type of full combat martial art. Designed only to work in its own context, and specifically to make it as safe as possible for the practitioners. As far as your contention that other martial arts would "demoralize" SCA fighters, there are several SCA members who are highly skilled practitioners of other martial arts, escrima included. Close minded people such as yourself have no place in SCA activites anyway

The SCA is a cultural recreation group that engages in competitive armored combat with rattan (wood) weapons.
