But in the late 1990s, the President signed a bill that allowed "community organizations" to basically keep banks from doing business unless they did what you see depicted here. The existence of stock and commodity exchanges means that free market principles still dictate the formation of capital in the US. The problem that Ron Paul is talking about is the manipulation of the capital free market because of huge monopolistic banking interests that collude with the government through their massive investment resources. I think you should distinguish between "free market", as in letting supply and demand determine prices, as opposed to the system of government permits and licenses to protect safety of the public. Permits and licenses in a regulatory framework implies that an action might pose a danger to the public, that's why we apply for a driver's license so that the government can reasonably conclude that we won't plow down and kill pedestrians when we drive.

Turns out it wasn't a bailout after all. It's a buy out of the private banker's competition. The Fed (private bankers) forced the American Congress to vote for unlimited funds drawn in the name of the American tax payer so that they can buy out their competitors. So, now they (the Fed) own loads more banks insurance companies etc. Americans just have to pay the bill.
