siim, like you and I are gonna see the results? I doubt it but would like to live a 1000 years. The time factor only stresses the need. Synthetic trees are cool. I bet we could manufacture enough CO2 scrubbers to throw us into a deep ice age. But nature is always going to do its thing. We are in a geological warm trend. People don't admit that but we are. The other side is a few thousand years of cold. Cold isn't good for populations. Talk to China about clean air and good luck there.

So waiting 300 years to see the results makes the project kinda ... well low priority. This is not to say nothing is done to remove the CO2. Just google "Synthetic trees". Though that particular research is only on paper. Still if the US keeps the air clean and the EU keeps the trees pumping, then I have no doubt's that we CAN solve it.

I agree that doing both at the same time is the best option. However the project of restoring the rainforest would be very-very long term endeavor. First, the planting itself would take longer than 10 years because you aren't doing it your own back yard. Second, the trees take up to 100 years to become of age. Third, it would take another 100 years to cycle through all the junk we've created. Fourth, the effects of CO2 in our atmosphere can be seen with a 100 years delay.

siim, its a neat analogy, but your boat has lots of holes from lots of places and some are far larger than the rest. The answer is get that boat out of the water. I agree the best answer is to stop the CO2 but between China & the US that's not going to happen fast. So doing both at the same time is probably the most efficient way. And plants are still the best processors of surface CO2. So lots of plants now, in the right places, and stop producing excess CO2 now or soonest possible chance..

This is my philosophy: if I have a leak on my boat, I plug the hole before starting to scoop out the water. That just makes more sense to me. As for Al Gore, although he wants to take giant leaps, you can't save the whole world at once. You need to take steps. He is taking one of those steps. I'm glad for that. Now to the rainforest issue ... while the USA does little to recover the rainforests, other countries are doing their part. Mainly UK I believe.

siim, you are exactly backwards. Until we correct the plant deficit we will still have excess CO2. It will take a long time to correct the plant deficit at the equator, as rainforests are difficult to reclaim. It needs to happen immediately and may take 100 to 150 years to begin to restore that climate. As we do the one, replanting like crazy, we can complete the other, minimizing human CO2 production.

Most of the CO2 is recycled by marine life. Besides, it is far more important to stop producing CO2 before starting to recycle it. Because it would be kind of stupid to do it the other way around. I'm not saying trees aren't important or anything, but one needs to have perspective.

Al Gores problem is that he persistently ignore the deforestation issue. CO2 is processed by plants. The rainforests are being slashed and burned. That leaves more surface CO2 unprocessed. You can build as many windmills as you want BUT if you don't restore the rainforests, if you let them continue to be cut, then no green tech will save us. NO ONE is promoting this fact.

I just love his passion for the environment and worthy causes. Edward Norton is certainly a good representative, and he speaks so eloquently that he draws you in all the time. I think that type of influence and power is being put to great use, and that he is not out there spending money on gas guzzling hummers or other expensive knick knacks. I love him even more!!

Just a note. There is a better use for natural gas that burns it more co2 efficiently. Natural Gas fuel cells for direct electric home production. I've heard nothing of NG fuel cells for cars, yet.Was wondering why Hydrogen was the only consideration(Plug power) The car companies could continue on with their electric and electric hybrid/ hybrids. I would think better from a safety standpoint.

I don't know about the Wind thing, HOWEVER, I think his idea of converting cars and trucks to Natural Gas is RIGHT ON. Current generation Cars and Trucks can run on Natural Gas as well as they can burn Gasoline (converted vehicles will get slightly less mileage, NG vehicles from the factory will get virtually identical mileage)

Oh boy! I need both a spell and content checker. You get my drift though: The weak currency also plays a pivotal role in the price of energy, be it natural gas or otherwise. Because it is conceivable to contain and solve the energy crisis (per T. Boone to cut off the foreign supply factor) but still have a very high domestic price(albeit all-american)due to inflation and a weak dollar. In such case, people do not win; the right solution is both energy self-reliance and a strong domestic economy.

Well it DEFINITELY isn't the sun for several reasons. 1) Why is Venus not warming when it's closer to the sun? 2) earth has several green house gases.
