Great tribute.. especially the "Beethoven" part: editing gets fast and sometimes you cross similar scenes of different movies (zooms, kisses, screams, fists,..). Your message is clear.. Kubrick had a unique style, though he experimented a wide set of genres. It's also interesting to experiment the music of one film on another.. sometimes it works, sometimes it gives a completely different effect.. Lolita's music on 2001's planet alignment is funny! PS My fav filmmaker too (I have all DVDs)

This is no different than what a piano player does. The only reason why it's celebrated is because only a very select few can do it on guitar. And stanley is the only one i have heard do it well for jazz i mean. But he is a great musican and has some nice lines in his playing. No doubt about that.

Marcus Millers solo from 08:12 to about 10:00 has an fantastic timing and a very nice tones, but as well Victor Wooten's solo before that was good as well. But i think Victor Wooten refers too much to Jaco Pastorius. I think that you should take all the things he invented new (like overtones and stuff) and play them in your own way, but never take his way of expressing solos on fingerpicking, because then you would be a copy of him

They use basses like guitars. Every good bassist does this. It seems that only a bassist who uses Chords is a good bassist. Thats why I use also chords :). I hate guitarists who say that a base man don't use chords and if they use it, it sounds bad. At school when we had ensemble they always make laugh at me and said bassguitar is a instrument for dumb people. I think they should stop listening to Fall Out Boy or Blink 182 and should listen to Clarke or Miller or Fle from RHCP.

this video was shot 13 years before his death. in that thirteen years he never allowed anybody to view the car. he only put on demonstrations with the water fuel cell ( which isnt really a water fuel cell but an invention that utilizes electrolysis) i believe that he thought he invented something great but after he learned that electrolysis had been experimented with in college labs for years he just wanted to keep the dream alive and thought he could eventually perfect it

Yes, it is acoustic, but 'acoustic bass' implies to most a bass guiatr which is acoustic. Not an 'upright bass/double bass'. So yes, it is a bass and it is acoustic. It is not really an acoustic bass by terms of general conversation and consensus. I guess you are being a bit of a pedant.

Well, yeah, he comes off in a certain manner, and so these older people trust him as being the gentle sort, probably. Talk about lucking out! Anyhow, there's nothing odd in Kubrick having so many "box-es" -- he was initially a photographer, after all, and was known for exhaustively scouting locations and either meticulously duplicating them, or actually using them (as in Clockwork O.). What's sort of annoying, in a way, is that the doc maker doesn't even happen to know of this, beforehand.

I think this is a brilliant documentary. It focuses on the man Stanley and some of his character traits rather than the "celebrity" of the man. Its different and that can't be a bad thing... here is another Speilberg/kubrick circumstance. As you know from the video Kubrick was going to make his holocaust film "Aryan Papers" but "Shindlers list" came along. Although kubrick had his doubts about showing the holocaust in it's entirety in one film, when asked about spielbergs film kubrick said "The holocaust was about 6,000,000 people who died, and schindlers list was about 600 who didn't. It is a movie about success based off of a story of failure." I thought that was interesting.

I agree. Spielberg couldn't ruin it, because Kubrick had worked out so much of the detail; yet, Kubrick would've streamlined the sentiment out of it, and made it more sexual. The metropolis was supposed to be pornographic for example, and Spielberg made it warm and fuzzy. Kubrick is about stark distance emotionally and Spielberg needs to hide from subtle ideas and bleak poetry in caricatur
