We made a radiator out of grass and piped icing, then we made the radiator pick up the vibrations of passing trains, we then took a wheel barrow full of lime flavouring and poured it over a tanning bed which we lined with felt, we linked this to a solar powered robotic vacuum cleaner and coated the entire system in marzipan ready for decorating. The end result is a great phone operating system that is expandable and future proof. This is roughly what i got from this video. :)

I haven't read or seen any comparisons to T-Mobile's current top-of-line phone, the WING, a WM touchscreen device also made by HTC. It's of course not a 3G phone, but i wish i could get a sense of "what's better?" about actual usage. Google Maps runs great on my WING, with GPS, satellite view, etc. WING has slideout keyboard, "joystick" as well as touch controls... and when you dump the crappy stock t-mo/WM rom, replace with an XDA rom like OpenTouch, very responsive. Anyone know?

No. They have to use the app store, so that Apple can take a large amount of profit. They say this is to keep the app store running. But when a developer has no other choice than to use the app store, do you think this is fair? And what's the need for all the DRM? What would you suggest? Ruby? Perl? Worse ... PHP? Java was a very logical choice. Mostly because it's got automatic memory management. One of the largest issues with developing for the iPhone is managing memory by hand. I'd suggest that you stop talking out of the side of your neck and actually do a little research (AND CODING) for both platforms. You'll see that the Google platform is far superior.

for one how much of a lock down apple has with applications for the iphone/itouch. they allow developers to create programs for their system but if its something they don't like, apple maintains the freedom to pull something out whenever they feel like it. Yes, Apps for your own domain. They are all web driven and yes, the browser is decent. But, I wanted to know if the push Gmail like feature that you can use with normal Gmail accounts works with Google Apps email accounts. I really like MS Exchange's push email system and this is similar but, I didn't see anything on this issue for Apps users. So, I was wondering if it works that way. If it does, MS has some SERIOUS competition.

Google Apps for your Domain? I think that's all web-page-driven stuff so it should handle it just fine. Isn't Google Apps just a bunch of web pages where you can administrate web/email accounts and stuff? Not sure if there is a Google apps widget or not, but the G1 ships with a WebKit web browser (the same engine behind Safari and Chrome). So you can certainly visit the web interfaces and access them that way. I'm sure in the future a Google Apps widget will be made, if there isn't one already

It doesn't have the iconic and polished design of the iPhone but it's a fantastic start for the Android platform. A couple of my friends at work have these and they have some really nice features. Still, I'm wondering if I should wait for a couple more Android phones to come out before picking one up. What do you think?

As someone who actually has a G1 as of 10-17 i can say i had many doubts about this device. I love the G1 but its not perfect, its potential is great. For example the hardware is pretty substantial, its a dual core qualcomm processor!! Plenty of memory and upgradabilty with sd cards. The android os is surprisingly hardy. I managed to crash it with a program that was unstable but the system came back quickly. Everythings open source so it will only get better. No stereo bluetooth or 3.5 jack.

So, the conclusion: Android apps will always Java/JVM-based. That's clear because all android apps run on the Dalvik(which is a JVM). Unless you want to modify the system. For your info, libary isn't necessary as you can simply write a linux/BSD/blabla application by only using system calls. Library just making your work easier.

Ok: For short, I been specific to android. Over the hardware and "bios" you have a monolithic kernel call linux. Alone, the kernel only some management, drive the hardware, work some file system. To work, they add some libraries, then api and over all this you run application. You could add extra-libraries&api&application in this order. It's a kind of hacking ;) You need a cross-compiler,a debuger, to modified the G.U.I. But little portabilities for this "new" specific application.

Basically, when you want to write a linux software what you need is libc. But you can't use that java classes to use with your native application. Let say you want to write an openGL apps, you will need the related library. That library is not available with android. What android have is just a libc. That's clear.
