I just signed up to you tube just so I could make this comment about the wonderful Suede. It has rekindled my love for the music, what an incredible band!!! Money isn't the real issue here, it's just being a popular group. Record shops now do not know what they are doing. Metal makes sense because it's fundamentally different than Blues, but the musicians in both cases of music have essentially gone through the same tiring deal. It's actually "Anarcho-Punk", a sub-genre of a sub-genre.. it never stops.

Still a great song 16 years later. Suede might well be the last great band who's singles I was buying on vinyl 7 and 12 inch. before that the Roses, Mondays,Smiths, Neds, Nirvana,etc etc. After Suede everything was cd.the early single covers were iconic.

I never lived through Bowies' best glam days, and really got into Suede only in the mid-'90s, a few years after they began, but I've got almost all the albums of both and HAVE been paying attention- and in all honesty I still see very little similarity. Some of the vocals and the bisexual thing, yeah, but if anything I see more of T.Rex in them, and a lot of the Smiths. But Suede were still genuinely unique. I'd like to know what Bowie had to say on it, though, cause I've never heard from him.

This will grow on you because this sort of band is about the music. The fabulous frill that accompanies it is just adding to charm. "Suede" & "Dog Man Star" as albums, are far more sincere and well thought up musically than the string of hits that is "Coming Up". Having said that, I am yet to hear a bad album from Suede.

and it isn't only about liking it or not, it's that MTV is bombing us with that kind of music, missing the opportunitiy to show other artists that are really worthy to listen to. Great bands are releasing albums and are getting ignored, not because they're bad, but because MTV doesn't want to give them airplay. Feeder, for ex.: their new album is being highly ignored and they're one of the best british bands we've seen in years. Janet Jackson, who has a great Pop/R&B album isn't on air, too...

i like most of the bands you cited (i love Coldplay!!!), but unfortunatly some of those bands are not in the mainstream (the real mainstream) which is controlled by black artists... pretty ironic isn't it? 20 years ago Rick James was struglying to get his videos broadcasted on MTV, and Michael Jackson managed to put black artists on the screen. Now they control the whole mainstream, and make it full of crappy music styles (rap, hip-hop, ghetto R&B...)
