Are you using an infrared LED? A visible light red LED wouldn't work I don't think. You can see the light of the LED on the pen that Johnny makes, but I think that's just because IR light is visible to digital cameras.

I would definitely agree. While it may be easier to get into this technology for people that have never used computers or are older(like older parents, grandparents, immigrants), but for the classic mouse user many things would be harder virtually impossible like gaming. A RTS could be easily played on this, but not a FPS.

I agree; this is an important step in the right direction for "Human Interface Devices." I wouldn't say it's more complicated than a mouse by any means, but I also think it will be quite some time (if ever) before this technology will "replace" mice. There are plenty of things you can do with a mouse that you couldn't easily do with touch. (Gaming, for instance.)

Could he add texture to it? I mean it would be very difficult to control such things on the screen without the conventional sense of frictional touch on it. You will have to depend totally on your vision to determine whether you have "grab" a hold of things successfully, which puts a great burden on the eyes. You may went tired easily by over-burdening your visual centers of the brain too much.

I like this stuff a lot, I have had it on my iPhone for more than a year. It's not really "tech" though, it's just a technique of doing the same thing people have been doing for a long time. By the way, the keyboard isn't going to be killed by this kind of thing. Lack of feedback makes any on-screen keyboard useless for any serious typing.

The multiple colours are based on timing. If the guy on the right had lifted his hand at the wrong time, it would have reversed their colors. Basically, the selection of a colour is a click, which requires a down and an up event. It associates it with the pointer that creates the next down event. Tuning the timing on these systems is a pain. You may have noticed a glitch where, when they were both drawing in the same window, a grey line was created between them.

Of course, but the question was - How does it remember? It's not like dragging a mouse. You can lift up your hand, and proceed at another point. So, how do you know which finger is which pointer, if you will. Actually, in the meanwhile, I found out. Turns out that each man has a different electric potential (different charge), so on that, it determines the user. But if you do it with two hands (1 user), the charge is same, so there's no way to determine which hand you're using at what point.

I'm no expert on this, but my best bet is this: That drawing app is designed for MPX, so it knows that there is more than one pointer. When it's drawn on, it "remembers" what pointer selected what color.

The lag in Google Earth is because of rendering delays, not pointer delays. Obviously they use an old / cheap graphics card. The amazing thing about this vid is that it showcases unmodified applications, i.e. Firefox, running alongside multi-touch aware aplications. I think they are wasting money on this research. A true multi touch system should have the user interact with a laser projection in 3d and not with a device. Laser projected keyboards are already a reality, won't be long before you can interact with any application you can project.

ez way to make one of these.. 1. get a hella lot of rubix cubes. 2. get a both fast speed and film reversable camera.. 3. take a stack of SOLVED rubix cubes.. and then twist them around and place them so that it looks like you did it forwards.. Myth Busters did a version of this the exact same way.. if you have the right camera you can do it too..

Hey man, nice vid, I have a question. I have the G25 but in GT Legends it really isnt setup properly. How did you use the H gears, especially how did you have neutral. For the steering can you have it so it moves the same as the G25? Just can't seem to get the clutch or gears to work, thanks in advance.
