I don't know why anyone would be against consumers fighting against fraud. It has nothing to do with getting even, or hate, or being out to make a buck, it has to do with justice. Making a buck is what Heidi Diaz is about. She defrauded thousands of people and became a millionaire in the process. I am looking at the AP article titled "State declares Obama birth certificate genuine" on google right now. And I quote "State officials say there's no doubt Barack Obama was born in Hawaii." Not sure it can be any clearer than that. And why would the Hawaii Department of Health be holding Obama's birth certificate if it wasn't a Hawaiian one. While I don't disagree that many lawsuits are outlandish, most of these examples are not examples of our bad judicial system, but those of entitled assholes. The "hot coffee" incident is not what everyone thinks it is. Mcdonalds had been sued many times before over the same incident. They kept their coffee at over 200 degrees(starbucks keeps theirs at 165). Because they always settled out of court, there was no need to lower the temperature. Most of these other cases get thrown out of court.

This actually sounds like a scam. Some lawyers got busted doing this a few years ago. The lawyers would actually scout out places that did not have such things as handicapped parking spaces and ramps. They then found a disabled person and sued a bunch of mom and pop businesses on that persons behalf. The businesses even wanted to add the parking spaces and build the ramps, but the lawyers cleaned them out anyway. If I was that woman I would find a way have the case looked at again.

I'm not specifically targeting this case specifically, but it's somewhat sad to know that people seem to "sue" rather than try to work it out. It seems, once an opportunity exposes itself, people are on the phone with their lawyers, rather than trying to work with managment first. I thought liability insurance covered costs where someone where to get hurt on the premises? Or if not hurt, if the place was destroyed somehow? I'm no professional, just speculating that maybe the type of insurance they had only covered those aspects, and legal fees or suits filed against them were not covered? I believe the place makes you sign a waiver too, to abide by rules and stuff like that to avoid hurting yourself. It's too bad it closed down.
