I love how Dr. Tyson exudes so much enthusiasm about the subjects he's passionate about. We need more popularizers of science these days with his caliber of knowledge and enthusiasm.

Wow. This guy gets paid huge sums of money for what? All I hear coming out of his mouth is the most unintelligent and comical crap I have ever heard! But I am sure that Dawkins is pleased, just so long as Tyson continues to slam intelligent design. If Tyson ever had a fleeting curiosity to the contrary, his career would be over and funding from the Atheist community would stop immediately. Funny how these things work.

he gives lectures at the Smithsonian in Washington DC (i live in Virginia so its not that far for me to go) but if at all possible, you must take a trip to go and meet/talk with him and possibly catch one of his lectures/presentations...he can give you a really broad outlook on life

true... actually science has actually proven "God" but "God" is in no way anything like what a person usually thinks of.

There is a difference between a reason and a cause. Everything has a how. Nothing has a why.

Religion answers the questions science has not yet (faith) AND Science answers the questions the bible leaves us with (fact). One without the other is like a hot dog without a bun. And remember the bible was a orally told story spanning centuries so there are a few things that may be missing or added in.

By: zaqqazxsw. on 01 Nov 08, 14:39:14
I think everything does need a "why". Why are we here? Maybe we'd be better off not looking at all, not delving, not yearning, but that's not human nature! That is why we are here!;)

im not tryin to debate u either soulgotcancer but does evrything need a why. some things just are
By: SoulsGotCancer. on 24 Oct 08, 14:42:18
Heres something to consider. Science in no way disproves the existence of God. It's merely more of an answer to 'How' and not 'Why' Not that I want to get into a heated debate over a Youtube video comment. I'm just simply stating that just because we know HOW something happened, doesn't mean we know WHY it happened. Biblical literalists are closed minded, because they put God into a box of what they want him to be. Is it not fesible that we just simply don't understand God at all?

"If we spotted him the carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen, could he make a single cell of grass?" Did he claim he could? I know how birds fly, but flapping my arms doesn't get me off the ground.
By: PeteTStarr. on 22 Oct 08, 20:53:25
I'm sure he'd say your question makes no sense. Also here's a tip from an atheist. Quoting the bible at us doesn't work because we DON'T believe anything in the bible. Because you know, we've actually thought about it, using logic and science and reason. I know you think the bible is the word of god, and that the bible tells you all about people who don't believe like us, but just remember, we don't ever think the bible is correct. Even when it says we are fools.
By: porthector. on 22 Oct 08, 05:48:20
Why not? That conclussion depends on the premises you've made. If your premises are "There is a God", "God is almighty", "Humans have free will" "God will intervene when humanity is in despair", moreover, "when any individual is in despair". We woud, then, have a God intervening all around us, sometimes in contradictory ways. Moreover, his intervening would violate our third premise, that of free-will and liberty. So if as a religious person you accept free-will, you'll reject God's intromission

Crossfire? In the middle ages? You should re-think your wording...
By: useralex677. on 21 Oct 08, 22:48:34
"The fool says in his heart, 'there is no God.'" "For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools." I have a question for this expert of bio-design. A blade of grass is the most insignificant of all things. We step on it, cut it, burn it. If we spotted him the carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen, could he make a single cell of grass?
By: qubix2008. on 21 Oct 08, 19:23:06
no, that is just a way to hide the problem under the rug, or to run away from it. An all powerful, all knowing, benevolent god would not sit there and watch people get massacred en-mass... God did not act "on the hearts" of people, because the nazis at Auschwitz-Birkenau did not become suddenly merciful with their prisoners ...
By: Misantropo02. on 21 Oct 08, 00:53:09
YES.... We go to the HELL, and fuck your jesus and mommy!
By: porthector. on 20 Oct 08, 22:56:28
If your premise is "There is a God that intervenes in humanity's affairs, when X or Y", then it can be proven wrong if X or Y occur, and there is no sign of God. There could be people who argued that God intervened throught the good humans that acted during both World Wars (not many jews lost their faith at Auzwitchz however it's spelled). Anyway, some christians don't believe God would just intervene like that, but rather act in the hearts of men. That's a difficult God to dispprove.

"You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe" -Carl Sagan.
By: qubix2008. on 20 Oct 08, 11:11:13
ok, agree with you. Let's start from the premise that "the existence of God is a question of faith". Then that means that if God exists, he is an entity that wants to help humans, wishing well to humanity. Don't you think that the 2 world wars that went on in the last century COMPLETELY disproves this hypothesis? How could God just stand and watch people get slaughtered without doing a thing?
