@servprosolutions I tried this and gave up trying to put the key in the lock. My plastic was too flimsy so the pins, instead of rising simply messed up the plastic. I did not have the time or inclination to try it further, but the theory is sound, if you can get the plastic to raise the pins.

I don't think this will actually work. They key for one is flimsy, it may not be strong enough to raise the pins, also a key has grooves shaved into the sides etc. My theory is, the key was broke off in the lock and the plastic key is able to slide in as well because its so thin, and the broken key along with the "tension wrench" give it what it needs to turn. Anyone agree?

(continued) I did this years ago but the Arizona heat was too much for it to last longer than an hour, maybe two at most Id say this wo0uld be most useful as a supplemental mini-system if your current ac is not the best and works less than it should..then this cheapo temporary method will work fine along side it. For a an entire home, I'll just stick to a solar power setup then use a conventional AC that is already in place.

Evaporatave cooler, not air conditioner..pretty basic, and you'd need to refill the water as it slowly melts..and yes this works.. the fan just pushed out the newly cooled air taken from the ice the copper tubing, no air or water travels through it..doesn't get so cold it would crack anything...keep in mind this is minimal efficiency (continued above)

@rainewater24 I seriously doubt that it would. The pump isn't meant to pump liquids so cold and the whole thing would become too brittle and crack. You would need a more substantial pump and I think ideally a circulator pump that pumps coolant or really salty water through another copper tube in the cooler which could be cooled to subfreezing temperatures by a solid block of ice or perhaps if you have some, liquid nitrogen or dry ice. The liquid nitrogen will evaporate quick though.

@dantheman012008 the back-light on the lcd is not nearly bright enough to satisfy a 70"+ screen, even in a completely dark room it would be barely visible, to get a really good quality screen i would recommend at least 1000 lumen, mine is 4000

Only a couple of things to say and that is , " Do you really need all the lighting that is built into the projector , as a screen has a self luminating screen " and " Does the projector need to be switched on in the first place , mirrors and lenses are all you should need .( Helping you to scale down your design ) Could be a money maker if you panel off behind the projector from sunlight after scaling it down , or even maybe a case ,just a thought . . . i did end up using an lcd tv the dissasembly was supprisingly easy plus it has vga connect hdmi. overhead projector i got is 4000 lumens which i got off of ebay ffor 60 bucks (free shipping) the tv was 50 bucks (ebay) i'd give the video quality threw the vga a 6.5 but when i hook up my xbox360 and switch it to 1080i i'd give it a 8.0 it does help to have a pure white screen the wall sucks. mostly just did the test run still have to mount everything. so far i am pretty happy with it.

@wastedspace2169 There is no reason why you cant use an LCD TV. The only downside to this is most smaller LCD TV's have lower specs and its very noticable when watching the projection. This was the reason why I decided to go with an LCD monitor (havent built the pj yet still wating on my lens kit)

there is a little more to building it then this but not much. the picture does not come out backwards because the screen is flipped. if you go to there website it has step by step instructions on how to build this. in one of the pictures towards the end they are viewing there website on the projector and the lettering isn't backwards which is how i know nothing is reversed. i was actually wondering if you could use a lcd tv instead of a computer monitor.

@bben95 I assume it would. The crystal is still on top of the overhead, it just needs the light from below. A normal LCD screen has a polarized crystal screen on top of a light. Fluorescent, I believe...? If you were to replace the light in the overhead with a fluorescent light, it would work. LCDs are basically just projectors anyway, he's just redirecting the light.

would this improve mileage? easy. no way. it takes at least as much energy to split water into 02 and H as you get from burning the H - and that's if there's no loss in the process, which there is. Then, burning the H in your car only uses 25% of the energy at best. the rest is wasted as heat.

Producing hydrogen this way is basically another form of battery storage, electricity -> hydrogen =>(your car)->fuel cell->electricity->mechanical (you can burn it but fuel cells work better). Fuel cells use Hydrogen and Oxygen and produce electricity and water. As Hydrogen used in this way is basically a form of battery, the pollution generated from it to power your car depends on the power station

@GalaticTG Also true, but the losses from power lines is pretty small, power loss is equal to resistance x current and they run at very high voltages so the amperage is comparatively small. Anyway in response to the video, installing such a system would hurt your fuel economy. Even at 500W that was producing stuff all and would have been a significant load on the engine. It is possible that it would help the car run more efficiently, and offset the load that way, but I doubt it.

@Agouti Everytime energy moves it diminishes in the form of heat loss. The miles of electricial wire provide a significant electrical resistance. I'm not saying this won't reduce greenhouses gasses but it will only work in areas that have solar power, wind turbines, or hydroelectric dams. You are right on one point. Most power plants don't run gasoline. They run on coal.

Typical steam powerplants run at the high 80's %, even huge ship engines struggle to top 50% and your average car will run below 30%. In addition no major powerplants runs on gasoline.

You know it takes more power to produce HHO then you get from HHO, That's just the laws of physics. Thus if your town or city uses fossil fuels to produce it's electricity. The amount of fossil fuels you consume producing the HHO will be greater then the amount of fossil fuels your car would consume. @believenman Possible, yes, probable, no. You're going to spend somewhere around $20,000 if you build the panels yourself, and three times that if you buy them from a manufacturer like Sharp or BP. That's just the panel cost... you then have to factor in inverters... and that's only if you plan on using it during the day and on days where there's sun, or you're going to have another $10000 in batteries.

@PiercingKnight usually the rating from mfg is under ideal conditions that are never matched by real conditions-I would expect a 4watt panel to produce in the neighborhood of 3.25 watts. What does that translate to in amps? Well, if you take 3.25 watts / 0.5 volts = 6.5amps which is still way more then what your getting. What are you dumping your amps into? Are you measuring the short circuit amps? Charging into a battery? Amps will vary depending on the load. Also, recheck all solder joints

I bought 6x6 Multi-Cryatalline solar cells that are supposed to be 4 watts, .5 volts and 8 amps. But when I measure the amps using multimeter the highest I ever get for amps is 3.5, even when sun is highest in the sky. Is this normal to get only half amps when measuring solar cells with meter or are these no good and I should return them? Anyone know?

The hot water from the COLD water faucet is hotter than the "hot" water coming out of the HOT water faucet. If they begin to smell, soak them in tepid water, dry naturally, spray with Febreze, then carry on wearing. @joebob5000 this is kinda a bit of both relection and refraction, this has to do with partial reflection and quantum mechanics, with transparent materials like glass/water varying the thickness of glass or the angle of incidence(the angle of the beam) will very the reflectivity, you've seen this if you have looked up from the bottom of a pool at the water surface or at a sunset on the ocean(that's what makes you get sun burn/snow blindness on the water)

You shoudl take a look at Plastic Optical Fiber (POF). They use it quite a bit in cars nowadays. The cost can be quite economical and the diameter of the fibre can be in mm rather than um. 1mm is very common but you will get a 2.5mm quite easily. You will get a good 50m without too much light attenuation. I'd love to see this type of product applied to lighting a home naturally.

@7zot Hello agian, sorry for my late respond, due to some work etc. well i normaly live in Denmark. And now those optic fiber cables progessed the hole way thru Scandinavia and thru the most of europe soon. So this will all be done and upgraded at the end of 2010 i guess. And at the fall 2011 we will probelay see som laser optics etc , well thats furture for now. But Sweden is using Laser optics for high speed internet Connection like 47Gbit. So everyone will asap get upgraded. =)
