I'm sure they would wipe it out easyly. In my book there is a (sort of) time travel thing happening, and it would envolve a modern carrier group engaging fleets from the 16th (ish) century. I was wondering how the modern fleet would deal with such a threat. For example I understand in ww2 the bizmark anti air weapons couldn't hit the bi planes (swordfish) because the planes were to slow. Again, sorry if it sounds silly. I didn't know electronics could help to get missle lock. Stands 2 reason tho

im not sure it would get picked up, depends on what type of electronics the ship you describe would be running, but you have to understand that the Carrier Strie Group is spread out, and there is helo surveilence 24/7 and flight ops going for almost constantly, so i would say thaat a ship like you describe whether it came up on radar or not would bedead in the water regardless, i have no doubt

i have seen the video in safety stand downs in the Navy many times but im not sure if it was an A-6 or if it was EA6-B, but it did happen and the guy did survive just braking like his pelvis or some shit, dont remember, but to answer your question yes its very possible, that guy was a ABE(aviation boatswains mate-equipment,and he was just coming out from checking the launch bar, making sure it was secured inthe shuttle and checking the holdback and with that jet powered up and him too close SUCK

The C-130 is not glamorous, but it is an amazing aircraft. This is one design the government really got its money's worth from. I'll bet the "J" model would handle carrier ops even more easily. But I also think the film somewhat downplayed the ability of the pilots. Impressive.

You will see later in this series a Zuni rocket accidently launched from one parked aircraft striking another. What the series doesn't say is that it was McCain's A-4 that was struck while he was in the cockpit. He had to get out, walk to the nose of his plane, jump off and scramble to safety. He was injured by the first explosion. He and the other pilots that survived were not required to go back to war, but he elected to do so, and was later shot down and imprisoned in N. Viet Nam.

I don't have a boat, but I do land my T-28 Trojan with a tail hook on a concrete pad that is about the size of a scale carrier deck. I found the key to more successful landings was multiple arrestor cables, suspending the cables off the deck with beads, and lots of practice. I have a T-45 that I plan to hook with as well ... that's the jet the Navy uses to CQ new pilots. I capture my landings with an on board camera. I would really like to see what yours looks like from an on board view.

No doubt the Germans had some smart engineers. So did the Americans, but we had a war to win so our focus was on production techniques and new designs of known, producable (sp?) technology. Winning the war was more important than wasting effort on designs that wasted resources and couldn't be maintained in the field. I'd say it worked. And you bet the Germans came to work for us. The only other option was the Russians and they HATED Germans ! BTW Von Braun was a genius !

Operation Paperclip comes to mind where Nazi scientists were given priority to come to the U.S. after the war. The German rocket scientists cut a deal with the U.S. because they didn't want to get captured by the Russians. It's true, and the only natural response to the collapse of the Third Reich. Operation Paperclip was a brilliant idea. I just wish they'd made more research into some of the more trippy ideas the scientists of das Vaterland, like say, the Silbervogel Amerikabomber - a plane that is designed to go above the stratosphere and then glide half way around the globe, "bouncing" on the upper layers of the atmosphere - brilliantly sci-fi-esque !

The use was so that aircraft would not need runways. The end of ww2 Germany was being bombed around the clock, including their airfields and a fighter plane that would not need a runway and be able to get airborne quickly was high on the list to put into production. Today it is no diferent, the ability to land in areas under fire without the expence of long strips that would be a target for terriorist etc.
