What he does in this video isn't as bad as what I saw live. It was just noise, tons of pedals all on at once to the point that it was just noise, and if you think that it goes with the songs then that's your opinion. I didn't though, it always had the same feeling to me. It would be like playing the same melody or run in every one of your solos. And no I'm not jealous of his strum as fast as you can technique or his huge investment in pedals.

I think his fast strumming and excessive use of effects is used way too much. Like I said, I saw them live and the first time I heard him switch on several pedals it was ok, I didn't like it but if that was what he wanted to express for that song, whatever. But then I heard more and more of the same stuff, and I didn't think that it worked especially in the mellow songs they were playing.

Dude... so what if he starts showing off? Are you jealous? The entire solo (and everyone I've heard him do) flows with the rest of the instruments. They all compliment each other. The way he uses his pedals compliments his technique and the music in general Nels Cline is almost 60, he's been playing since he was 12. He knows what he's doing. Just because he strummed fast doesn't mean it was bad (USUALLY fast strumming is used badly), but Nels knows when to do it.

McCune Audio of San Francisco provided monitors for the Beatles Candlestick Park concert in Aug 1966. A 3 way system was set up using Altec Lansing 9844A 60W speakers. You can see the speaker system clearly on any of the concert footage. Monitors didn't become common place until about 1969 - 70 the Beatles usually plugged into either the house PA or whatever the sound company hosting the event gave them. What the band really needed was their own employed sound engineer to travel with them.
