i dont like what that looks like at all. if ur gonna switch a carrier to get any phone, dont get this. get a blackberry for VERIZON. its expensive, but u get what u pay for. i have a voyager. its way better looking than this and is has the same features basically minus the android bullshit. and i've only had like 2 dropped calls in the last year. you have service everywhere with verizon.

Unfortunately because your friend reported the phone as lost, the provider has likely blocked the phone from accessing the network. It's possible that the phone will still work on another network as I'm not sure of the Androids hardware, but if this were an iPhone 3G, I can tell you they can disable the phone itself, and repair is near impossible.

nah. at first i wanted to get the Samsung Behold(their other new touchscreen from tmobile). G1 is wayy better though. definately changed my mind. *Gi is way easier to type with, The tracball is a relly nice feature. The behold lags more. websites show up better on the G1. and all the applications that are and will be availible just put it at the top of the list. I'll admit, teh phone itself doesn't have the prettiest design, but EVERYTHING else about it is pretty great, getting one soon!

thanks for the tip. i think htc/google could have come up with something a bit more pleasing to the eye, but the actual phone function seems to be very promising with many people from the developer community creating good apps. hopefully the 2nd gen will improve on the aesthetics of this phone

iPhone copied LG Prada, don't believe me look it up. It was the first touch screen phone. iPhone just looks sleeker, since it came out after, but it still looks similar to that of Prada. Also, there are a ton of other touchscreens out there. One is by Verizon, they actually tried something new, but it sucks major balls (can't remember the name, but the face plate (flip styl) is also touch screen, but is pretty useless). This atleast tries a new look check: Sprint Epix, it's basically iPhone

Yes, Apps for your own domain. They are all web driven and yes, the browser is decent. But, I wanted to know if the push Gmail like feature that you can use with normal Gmail accounts works with Google Apps email accounts. I really like MS Exchange's push email system and this is similar but, I didn't see anything on this issue for Apps users. So, I was wondering if it works that way. Google Apps for your Domain? I think that's all web-page-driven stuff so it should handle it just fine. Isn't Google Apps just a bunch of web pages where you can administrate web/email accounts and stuff? Not sure if there is a Google apps widget or not, but the G1 ships with a WebKit web browser (the same engine behind Safari and Chrome). So you can certainly visit the web interfaces and access them that way. I'm sure in the future a Google Apps widget will be made, if there isn't one already

Although this phone isn't as stylish as the iPhone, I think that it's functionally a better piece of technology. I steer away from Apple products anyway since I found out that Al Gore is on their board. I think that the man is a crock. It seems like Apple pushes agendas more than it promotes its products.

As someone who actually has a G1 as of 10-17 i can say i had many doubts about this device. I love the G1 but its not perfect, its potential is great. For example the hardware is pretty substantial, its a dual core qualcomm processor!! Plenty of memory and upgradabilty with sd cards. The android os is surprisingly hardy. I managed to crash it with a program that was unstable but the system came back quickly. Everythings open source so it will only get better. No stereo bluetooth or 3.5 jack.

agreed ^^. The initial boot requires you to enter in your Gmail information. It then transmits the account info via EDGE or 3G. So, you must use internet at FIRST. However, once you get through the setup, I suppose you could disable EDGE and 3G in its entirety and remain on your WiFi. I'd be careful though, you may/will get billed for the data you transmitted during the whole process if you dont have a subscription.

there is an accelerometer, the phone is just not configured to use the accelerometer to rotate automatically on the web browser or the home/menu screens. But there are games that use the phone's accelerometer. rest assured, there will be third party apps that will allow rotation on the standby display(home screen) using the accelerometer. Something similar to rotateme.

the only bad thing bout the phone is the battery life. other than that it fuckin sweet! u can download music from computer and put it on the phone, any pictures, and the browser is pretty quick. Ive had it for bout 3 weeks and it hasnt dissapointed me yet hehehe cant wait for the adobe flash player 10 muahahaha then its gonna pwn! the iphone!!!!!!!
