FYI, that's not a xylophone, it's a Marimba. Xylophone is a smaller instrument that sound higher than the Marimba, and the harmonics are tuned differently so it has a characteristically different sound.

Excuse me.... This is not a Glass-Xylophone, it's a Glass-Harp. The name: XYLOPHONE is greek and means XYLO=WOOD and PHONE=SOUND. So, a xylophone can only be made of wood! If the material is not wood, then it can't be a xylophone!

You can do it too, if you take a wine glass that is jus a bit tapered at the lip, wet your hand w/the wine inside or just water, and run in along the rim of the glass for a few seconds, the friction of your finger w/ the glass and water will create the sound. depending on how full of liquid the glass is, and how tapered the lip is, you get a different pitch

Beautifully played! Technically it is not a xylophone and, as far as I can tell, the goblets are not arranged like a piano keyboard. This makes it somewhat more difficult to learn.

This is pretty good. I just recently played this piece except I did it on marimba, And yeah I think you need to use more dynamics, like phrasing through diferent passages to make it more connected. Also, you tend to slow down a little bit at some parts. But overall very good job.

Yeah, I get sick of the "anyone can do marimba" comments from the rest of the band. I'm working on this piece myself. But yeah, the memorizations almost a must. I've yet to meet anyone who can play a complicated piece without looking at the keys, and looking from the stand to the instrument constantly is a pain in the neck and you're gonna get lost. But yeah, the difficulty I'm having with this piece is that several parts are similar, so I sometimes get caught in 'loops'.

Yeah, I tried to do the memory and music thing. Crash and Burn baby. I think I repeated the same measure about 5 times. One of the other teachers said," I thought it sounded a little repetitive". From then on out it was music for practice but memory for performance. I never screwed up again after that.

Perhaps not as fast and dynamic as the performance at the Iwacki Auditorium, but probably more precise. Plus this one is helped by being filmed professionaly, with decent sound. This is from the VCE Season of Excellence, filmed at the Melbourne Concert Hall (now Hamer Hall) in 2000.

Well done. Good up-strokes. I'm going to be be doing this piece for my recital next semester and I like your sound(I might steal some stuff!) One little critque: don't wear a tie. It can get in the way when doing such an energetic piece such as this. Didn't seem to bother you tho. Bravo!

Yeah you're right, I think it's because glissandi by their very nature make you want to play them fast. And having a bar with four glissandi in a row, without a particularly strong beat in the piano accompianemnt makes it even harder! I actually don't think I did it as bad in the other performance I have on here, and in terms of artistic expression that one is also a lot more broad! Thanks for watching!

Every performer I have seen do this online has had an issue recovering from the measure with the up and down gliss's-- they seem to jump the gun into the next measure. Other than that and a few note issues, great job-- very musical. Great reference for me. Thanks!

Thanks for the critique! In my defence I'd ask for leniancy in regards to mistakes, because I was incredibly neverous - this was recorded at the Melbourne Concert Hall and I was a 17 yr old High School student. It isn't THAT 'slow a temp'! It's about the same speed as yours! (not counting the first bit, after which you slow down) If you want to see it faster (and an altogether more frenetic performance) see the other performance I did in a much more relaxed environment!

Nice tone, many note mistakes especially for that slow of a tempo. Careful that double stops are in fact precise unison hits. The groove could be more in the pocket. The videographer is great. Let me know what you think of my version with all 3 mvts.

Thanks very much for these details! May I suggest that for those of us who may be a bit challenged to measure accurately to 0.5 mm ... and even more challenged to cut it precisely ... always cut the pipe a teensy bit LONG. Cutting it short makes the pitch sharp and there's no practical way to lower it. Cutting it long leaves it a bit on the flat side, then you can tune it up to pitch by grinding/filing the end a bit at a time.

I noticed that you had almost an entire scale. I couldn't tell you the specific note names, but I noticed that the intervals were fairly accurate (to my rather sad ear).
