& my feeling of the song was just my own. the songwriter said it was about David Kelly but only partly. & he "used to go to school" near the same place in Oxford, so he relates to this man, that's the starting pt. IMO he is linking it to all UK and US people, our survivors' guilt, for having lived while our government killed Iraqis & then killed him for speaking up against it. in 2006 when this song came out Israel bombed Lebanon, T. Yorke posted pictures of the dead on Radiohead's site.

the tragedy is not 1 person from the UK/USA died (he was from UK btw). he died because he had documents that PROVED the war was based on lies, and he couldn't prevent it anyway, that's why it matters. no, this is not the tragedy compared to hundreds thousands civilians dead. but it's what this sad song is about- how even people who cared (inspectors, street protests etc) couldn't stop their country doing this. Thom Yorke wrote other songs about Iraqi people and others' suffering in war (I Will).

it's not just the Iraq weapons inspector who died. song cries we all bear guilt when atrocities (war, repression of workers like Thatcher's Poll Tax riots in the video) are allowed to be done "in our names". "we think the same things at the same time, we just can't do anything" in US/UK/other countries on earth we felt this way, so people stay passive (see wider world as fake, like video's landscape), we lost hope (bird pulled down), so our collective conscience drowns. Well parts of the song are pretty much only about a girl, others aren't. Apparently the video is about a friend of theirs who didnt make it. They made it big and reached success or whatever but he wasn't there to share it with them. It was probably a tribute to someone they actually lost. But it could have just been an interesting spin on a video. When you're like bros it has nothing to do w/ sexuality, but when the lyrics don't exactly match the video, it misleads. Dont think about it 2 much :)

mad... dis song really gets me thinking about my ex. I broke up with him, 6 months, and it was the biggest mistake that i ever made. I always seems that you never know how much you love someone up until you let them walk outta your life. I swear I would give up anything just to hear him say that he loves me. I always assume the children and beautiful represent innocence, the old decaying house represent and tossing off necklace represent lost innocences. It seems the teen girl lost her virginity to the young man who carelessly left/dump her afterwards. Faith is reminiscing it all, and pretty much singing this song to the young stud who left her high and dry (and pretty much probably don't even remember who she is)after she gave him something precious.
