I love SG-1/SG-A and own everything of it on DVD. BUT BSG is in nowise overrated!!! However, you DO NEED to see the miniseries pilot to get the characters and follow it chronologically...they have big story arcs. But it is definatly WORTH it!!!

ok, i'm a "Stargate" kind of guy. i've been under the impression that BsG is a bit overrated, doesn't really bring anything special to the table, and that the show is totally based on sappy drama-bs, and thus very annoying. this was my conclusion after watching 15 minutes of it one day.. however.. can someone convince me otherwise? its possible i haven't given it much of a chance. does anyone recommend this show? or not? and why? thanks lol

Don't tell the truth, I love you logic. Don't remember the bar scene with a blood limb? Don't remember Jango being beheaded? Don't remember Count Dooku's head being cut off? Don't remember people dropping like flies and a strangled rebel troop in Tantive 4? Anything that may make SW seem for kids is mistaken for humor or relief. Lucas may now be aiming towards the kid audience, but only because the adult audience is taken care of. Atleast it's better than techno babble in BSG.

I like this BSG cause i can go to my local walmart,kmart,target, and gun store and have just about every thing they have. I actually have one of the pistols they use. Which is pretty neat, that its a space man gun. Acvtually nothing in BSG is all that out of the daily life of most here on earth, but you think they wouldnt smoke on a sealed ship. After workin on this show for five years I can tell you it was one of the greates experiences ever in film ! The show's "sappy drama" as you call it is actually how real people of varied beliefs and personalities might ostensibly act under the depressing situations in which they're placed. It might take getting used to, but Battlestar is the perfect example of how characters on TV should be written and developed.

If you look up the original series on Wiki, you'd see that it had the highest premier ratings of any show & eventhough ratings declined as time went by. You'll also read on the Nielson Rating page confirms that even when canceled, it was STILL winning its time-slot to the end. The Lucas & Universal counter-suits were dropped. Many criticised the cancelation of a series STILL winning its time-slot. This new series has never matched those ratings even on a cable channel dedicated to Sci-fi.

Actually the original BSG got cancelled because it cost over $1 million an episode to put together. The ratings gradually dipped during that year to where it was barely in the top 20 (monumental achievement for sci-fi though). Mork & Mindy took BSG's time slot..LOL There was also a lawsuit involving a kid that choked on a BSG toy viper. The Lucas lawsuit got thrown out, so that didn't affect the outcome. The original was kind of dorky but as a kid I thought it was cool. BSG 80 was crap.

We'd always just thought your Canadian film industry was just too gay period. But I didn't know all those other series were from Canada too, so I'll take that back a bit. We loved McGyver & X-Files. But did you ever consider that maybe its not Hollywood putting all the risk on your industry? but instead that your industry is just that gay & uber-politically-correct anymore? Personally I'm more interested in what my students watch. I post this junk in empathy for relatives/friends in the industry who believe what I suspect are paranoid 'critics' up here claiming the reason the US creators keep producing these 'high-risk/critics-choice/ratings-flops' series/movies NOT in the US but in Canada is so it won't come back to bite them back in LA. Personally I blame the high Cdn $ more, I post the paranoia only as I empathize. Many failed stints must look bad on resume.

Actually, it's a recurring theme throughout the seasons.. On the season 1 soundtrack it's called 'A good lighter', on the season 2 soundtrack it's called 'Reuniting the Fleet' and on the season 3 soundtrack it's 'Admiral and Commander'. They're all roughly similar, so it's hard to say which one it is. Personally, I'd say it's 'A good lighter'..

I used to be a huge Stargate fan. Then I watched BSG. I find myself unable to watch regular scifi shows anymore, BSG just blows it all away. The show elevates SF television drama into a proper art form. I cannot recommend it enough.

I do recommend this show. Yes at times it can be sappy and drama filled..but it's acting off of human emotions..which is what makes it so great..you can relate to at least one of the characters in the show or many of them at one time...in my opinion I think the show is absolutely genius...and this is the first Sci Fi show I've ever seen..My mom and Husband are sci fi freaks..I saw them watching this..I sat in and HAD to watch from the begining...

It's hard to tell where Ronald D Moore has put this on the timeline. It might be revealed or hinted at next year, during the second half of the fourth season. So, if I were you I'd make sure I would've seen every episode so far, before we hit the final ten episodes! Hey this show is good, although I do agree it has the Hillary Clinton feminist movement feel lmfao... But none the less I say it is better than the old, because it is darker and more violent.. Makes you feel like humanity is in trouble... I loved the old show, but the old was def more comedic than this :0.. Ich wurde älter und meine gesamte Erlebniswelt wurde realistischer, düsterer, bedrohlicher, gewalttätiger! Ich habe einen fünfjährigen Militärdienst hinter mir und weiss mittlerweile, welche Ehre es bedeuten kann eine Uniform zu tragen,aber auch, welche Verantwortung damit einhergeht!! Trotz allem bin ich ein begeisterter Film Fan, besonders SciFi, geblieben!! Ich bin ein begeisterter Fan der Neuauflage - aber ich kann Deinen Standpunkt nachvollziehen. Als ich zehn, elf Jahre alt war (und natürlich auch begeisterter Star Wars Fan)sass ich mit einem Freund vor dem VHS Gerät und habe mit grossen Augen das Geschehen in den alten Battlestar Filmen verfolgt. Ich war begeistert!! Dass eine komplette Fernsehserie existierte efuhr ich erst Jahre später - für mich gab es nur diese Filme, die ich mir immer wieder anschauen konnte!!

they can't have action every episode; they only have about 36 pilots out of the recommended 160 that they should have... Galactica's wing is nothing; they'd lose the rest of their pilots if they did, not to mention that the cgi is one of the greatest drains on their budget... hence why we're waiting until Feburary.

To me - and just my opinion - to go with another major character as a cylon would be too campy. If Roslin - then why not Adama or Lee? I find it strange that they would waste a decent actor like Colm Feore in a cameo. Ever see Storm of the Century? He could definitely pull off an "imperious leader" type role. We shall see...

One thing I especially liked was to see original cylons as of BSG Original series. Also, it shows a much needed introduction into the split and genesis and eventual evolution of the cylons. I have a hard time with what was done to the colonial fleet... gosh.

I've seen all of Star Trek shows and very rarely ever gotten excited and never buy any of the merchandise, while Star Wars all ways gets my heart pumping and my home has Star Wars sheets to comic books. I'd never camp out over night to see a Star Trek movie I usually wait for it on TMN. I find Star Trek boring but still liked really some of the characters. I can imagine in the sci-fi way of thinking, their torpedoes produces a explosion of energy, not shrapnel. So you have a concentrated explosion of energy hitting a shield designed to deflect energy weapons then it will drain the shields. This concept was thought up over 40 yrs ago with the original star trek.

They are using visible lasers. I'd just use a hull of polished aluminium against them and I'd shoot those slow torpedoes with high powered near-visible infrared-lasers around to make them explode because of the heat (at least, not all splinters would fly into my ship's direction at top speed, but still a problem). A Gatling Vulcan should do the spaceships easily :D My ship would be much more efficient as I would build it in a way that instead of generating sound, it uses vacuum to be quiet :D

well, beam weapons are everywhere. That's no big thing. But in space, beam weapons are just idiotic. Projectiles, even without explosive charge, are MUCH MORE effective in space, where aerodynamic design is not needed. Well, but in that case I think the star trek fleet would rule all others, because the phasers laugh about lasers (sttng!!)
