Sun Tea Jars - Using Solar Power To Make Iced Tea
More than ever, it is important to use renewable sources of energy whenever we can, including solar power. This might seem like a daunting task, but it is not insurmountable. If we do a little here and a little there, the whole planet is better off. If you like iced tea and want to ease your impact on the planet, go solar! Instead of boiling water on your electric or gas stove to brew the hot tea that will be cooled into iced tea, use a sun tea jar instead.
Sun Tea Jar - Worth The Wait
The one disadvantage of using sun tea jars instead of a kettle is that it takes a lot longer to make your iced tea. However, you can plan in advance. You can even choose to make every OTHER jug of iced tea with a sun tea jar so that you will always have iced tea on hand. When you get the rhythm of making sun tea in sun tea jars, then you can switch more to solar power for tea making.
Sun tea is best made when the sun is strong, which for most people is only during the summer and early autumn. Before you leave for work in the morning, place the sun tea jar filled with teabags and cold water (sweetener optional) out on a porch or window sill that gets the sun’s blast most of the day. It should be brewed by the time you get home from work (assuming you are away at least eight hours). Then, you place the sun tea jar in the fridge overnight to chill. Serve over ice.
Sun Tea Jar - Easy To Find
Sun tea jars are easy to find in department stores, house ware shops and even in major supermarket chains in the springtime. They can be made of glass or plastic. Some people are sensitive to the taste of plastic and prefer glass sun tea jars. Glass sun tea jars are more expensive and heavier, but are very attractive and sturdy. Sun tea jars are usually clear with very minimal designs on them. Don’t pick one that’s more than half design. The sun needs to get through, which seems to happen best in clear plastic or glass.
You can even find complete iced tea making sets in real world stores and online. The sets are similarly designed sun tea jar, pitcher and glasses. Sometimes you will find them in the patio furniture section of a store if they are not in with glassware or cooking equipment.
